Speed decides the outcome

The water itself is rarely what kills a device; corrosion is. As long as the board is powered with liquid across it, current flows where no current should and the traces eat themselves away. That is why switching it off is the first thing you do, and certainly not putting it on the charger to check. Rice and a hairdryer remove nothing, they only move the moisture around. Coffee, beer and sea water also leave salt and sugar behind that keep working after the device has dried. We open the device, clean the board, remove the corrosion and measure the circuits to restore what has been affected.

From a moto g to a razr

The Motorola range runs from straightforward moto g handsets to the razr, and those are two different kinds of repair. On the g and edge models the work is comparable to any other Android phone and we hold the common parts in stock. A razr is another matter: the inner screen is a folding panel with a hinge underneath, which is dearer and more involved than a flat display. Frequently asked questions about Motorola water damage repair

What should I do straight away?

Switch the device off and leave it off. Unplug the charger, dry the outside, do not put it on a radiator and do not try to turn it on to see whether it still works. Bring it in the same day if you can, because every hour it stays damp is another hour of corrosion.

Does a bag of rice help?

No. Rice does not pull liquid out of a sealed device and it leaves dust and starch behind in the ports. It only gives you the feeling of doing something while the corrosion inside carries on regardless. The device has to be opened, cleaned and measured out, and that is not a job for household remedies.

Can you guarantee it will work again?

No, and we will not promise it either. With liquid damage the outcome depends on what got in, how long the device stayed powered on afterwards and which components were affected. We establish free of charge what we find, tell you honestly what the odds look like and only then agree a price. If you say no, it costs you nothing.

My device works again, am I in the clear?

Not automatically. A device that starts up again after a night of drying still has moisture and salt residue inside, and those can eat through a trace or a connector weeks later. Have it opened and cleaned while nothing is broken yet; that is a smaller job than a board repair further down the line.
