Cleaning first, not the board

A console that runs loud or cuts out mid-game usually does not have a board problem. Dust in the cooler and thermal paste gone hard produce exactly those complaints, and cleaning with fresh paste is a far smaller job than most people fear. So that is where we start, rather than at the most expensive scenario. If the HDMI port turns out to be the cause, that is good news too compared with what you often hear: the port is soldered to the board and can be replaced on its own, so no new board is needed. And because we leave your own board in the console, your storage and your account stay as they are.

Frequently asked questions about PlayStation repair

My PlayStation starts up but there is no picture.

That is almost always the HDMI port or the chip behind it. Try another cable and another input on the television first to rule those out. If the picture still stays away, the port is the job: it is soldered to the board and can be replaced on its own, so this does not need a new board.

My console is loud or switches off while I play.

After a few years the cooler is packed with dust and the thermal paste has gone hard, and that produces exactly these complaints. Cleaning and fresh paste usually settle it, and that is a smaller job than people expect. If the heat has already done damage on the board, that turns up when we measure it out.

The disc tray will not take a disc or eject one.

That is a known fault and usually very fixable: the mechanism is worn or dirty, or the drive is giving up. Bring the console in and we will establish what it is for free and tell you the price before we start.

Will my games and saves be kept?

With the repairs above the drive is left alone and everything is still there afterwards, because we repair the board rather than replace it. We cannot guarantee it, especially not after liquid damage or a short circuit. If there are saves you cannot afford to lose, say so and we will take that into account.

What does a diagnosis cost?
