One thing up front: an iPad is not a large iPhone to work on. The screen is bonded along its whole edge with strong adhesive, the battery is a big glued pack, and on the Air and Pro models glass and display panel are laminated into one piece. Getting it apart takes heat and a lot of patience, and then the device has to be rebuilt clean and sealed again. So this is not a repair you wait for: you leave the iPad with us and hear when it will be ready as you hand it over.

Repair or replace, looked at honestly

With an iPad the choice between repairing and replacing matters more than with a phone, because a screen is a larger share of what the device is worth. On a recent iPad Pro, repairing is almost always the sensible call. On an eight-year-old standard iPad used only for video, we will say honestly when that money is better spent on a replacement. The diagnosis is free and commits you to nothing, so you can weigh it up with real information instead of a guess. If your iPad supports the Apple Pencil, we test after the repair that the pen is recognised across the whole screen.

Come in, have it collected, or post it

You will find us on Rijnstraat 76-H in the Rivierenbuurt, close to Amsterdam RAI station and a short cycle from the Zuidas, De Pijp and Oud-Zuid. Because an iPad stays with us for a day anyway, collection and return is especially practical here: it saves you making the trip twice. If you live further out, you can also send your iPad to us by insured post.

Frequently asked questions about iPad repair

How long does an iPad repair take?

Allow one to two working days. The screen has to be released with heat, all the old adhesive has to come out, and then the device is sealed again and tested. That is not something to rush: rushing an iPad is precisely how a second crack appears.

Can just the glass be replaced?

On the older standard iPads the glass is a separate layer and sometimes it can. On the Air and Pro models glass and display panel are laminated into one piece and you replace them together. After the free diagnosis you will know which of the two yours is and what that means for the price.

My iPad will not charge.

Surprisingly often that is the port rather than the battery. Lint from a bag gets pressed in by the connector until there is a plug of it at the bottom, and then the cable no longer seats deeply enough. We test first with a cable and charger we know to be good, and look into the port under magnification. If it is only dirt, we clean it and that is the end of it.

Will my data be preserved?

Yes, a screen, battery or charging port repair does not touch your storage. Do make a backup via iCloud or your computer first anyway, simply because that is sensible with any device that is being opened.

One side of my iPad screen is lifting.

That is almost always a swollen battery pushing the screen off the case. Stop charging it, stop using it and bring it in. Carrying on makes the swelling worse, and at some point the battery damages the screen too, which adds a second part to the job.
