Why a battery goes downhill
A lithium-ion battery loses a little capacity with every charge cycle. After a few years you notice it in more than the runtime: the cell can no longer deliver peak current, so the device cuts out suddenly under a heavy app or in the cold, sometimes with a quarter of the charge apparently left. If the battery also swells, it pushes the screen loose, bulges the casing or blocks the trackpad. That is not something to sit out. Stop charging, stop using the device and bring it in, because a swollen battery can take the rest of the device down with it.
What to know about Realme
Realme puts a lot of technology into inexpensive phones, and that has a flip side at repair time: parts are less widely stocked than for the big brands, and the same handset exists in regional variants with slightly different components. So we check the type number first and confirm the lead time before taking your phone in. Worth knowing up front too: on an inexpensive phone the question is not only whether a repair is possible but whether it is worth it. How do I know the battery really needs replacing?
Typical signs are sudden shutdowns, draining fast while idle, getting warm on the charger and a device that only works plugged in. We test the battery free of charge and tell you what comes out. If it turns out to be healthy, we say so and you are under no obligation.
My screen or casing is lifting, what now?
That is almost always a swollen battery. Switch the device off, unplug the charger and bring it in as soon as you can. Carrying on charging and using it makes the swelling worse, and at some point the battery damages the screen, the trackpad or the casing as well. Never puncture it yourself.
How long does it take?
On a phone usually around 30 minutes, while you wait. On a MacBook or laptop, one to two working days, because the battery is fixed into the casing there and the machine has to be closed up and tested again afterwards.
Will my data be preserved?
Yes, a battery replacement does not touch your storage and everything is still there afterwards. Do make a backup first anyway, simply because that is sensible with any device that is going to be opened.
