What is usually wrong with a pair of headphones

On over-ear headphones four things come back again and again. Ear cushions that harden and split, which costs you both comfort and noise isolation. A headband worn through along the fold. A battery that after a few years no longer lasts the playing time it used to. And a charging port packed with lint or worked loose inside, so it only charges if you hold the cable a certain way. With earbuds the story is different: the complaint that one bud stops topping up is usually not a fault but dirt in the charging contacts of the case, and cleaning is the whole repair. The battery in a bud is potted into the stem and cannot be replaced — we would rather say that first.

Frequently asked questions about Headphone repair in Amsterdam

Can you replace the battery in my headphones?

On over-ear headphones almost always: there is a real, replaceable battery in there. On earbuds, no — that battery is the size of a grain of rice and fully potted into the stem. The charging case for earbuds is doable, because it holds an ordinary battery and an ordinary charging port.

Only my ear cushions are worn, can that be done on its own?

Yes, and it is one of the cheapest repairs we do. On most models the cushions are magnetic or clipped and we swap them in a quarter of an hour. New cushions also give you noticeably better noise cancelling back, because the seal around your ear is right again.

My headphones only charge at a certain angle.

That is almost always the charging port rather than the battery. Lint from a bag gets pressed in further by the plug until there is a plug of it at the bottom, and then the cable no longer seats deeply enough. Bring your own cable and adapter when you come in and we will rule those out first.

My brand is not listed.
