Most drones come to us for the same reason: they met something solid. A clipped branch, a hard landing, a gust at the wrong moment. What that breaks is usually mechanical and replaceable — a motor, an arm, the landing gear, the gimbal the camera hangs in — and a drone that will not take off is not automatically a write-off. At Blue Apple on Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam Zuid we repair DJI, Autel, HOVERAir, Potensic and the consumer models Parrot and Skydio no longer support.

What usually goes wrong on a drone

After a crash the first thing to check is not the part that looks worst. A bent arm is obvious, but the motor inside it often survived, while a motor that took grit through its bell will sound rough and draw too much current with no visible damage at all. Second is the gimbal, because the camera hangs on the most exposed point of the aircraft: if the picture is tilted, shakes, or the gimbal cannot find level on startup, that is the gimbal assembly or its ribbon. Third is the group of faults that has nothing to do with impact. A drone that drifts, refuses to fly without a compass calibration or loses its position is a GPS or compass module problem. One that powers up but will not arm is usually the flight controller. And the least dramatic and most common of all: a battery that has swollen, or lost enough capacity that a fifteen-minute flight is now five. A soaked drone is the one case where we make no promises — fresh water gives it a chance if it comes in quickly, salt water usually does not.

Frequently asked questions about Drone repair in Amsterdam

I crashed my drone. Is it worth repairing?

Often yes, because what breaks in a crash is mostly mechanical. Arms, motors, propellers, landing gear and the gimbal are all replaceable parts. What decides it is whether the central board and the shell survived, and that is exactly what the free diagnosis looks at before you commit to anything.

My drone flew into water.

Bring it in as fast as you can and do not try to power it on to check. Fresh water on a drone that gets opened and cleaned quickly has a fair chance. Salt water usually does not, because it keeps corroding after it dries. We will look, and we will give you an honest answer rather than a hopeful one.

The video is tilted or shaky since the crash.

That is the gimbal rather than the camera. The gimbal is the most exposed part of the aircraft and the first to take a knock, and on most models the assembly and its ribbon cable can be replaced without touching the rest of the drone.

Do you repair the battery, and what about swollen ones?

Yes, batteries are one of the more common jobs. Stop flying a swollen battery and do not charge it — bring it in as it is. A pack that has lost capacity is straightforward to deal with; a pack that has physically expanded needs handling with care, which is a good reason not to leave it in the drone.

Can you fix a Parrot or a Skydio?

The consumer models, yes — the ANAFI, the Bebop 2 and the Skydio 2 and 2+. Both companies have since moved to enterprise and defence customers, which means owners of those older drones have nowhere official left to send them. That is precisely why we list them.
