Replacing the battery in your MacBook Air 13" M1 A2337 (2020)
A MacBook battery lasts a long time, but not forever. Apple rates it for about a thousand charge cycles; after that it holds noticeably less charge. You notice it when your MacBook needs the charger by mid-afternoon, shuts down while it still seems to have some percent left, or suddenly slows down on battery.
The MacBook Air M1 has no fan. When it gets warm it slows down instead of cooling, and heat is exactly what ages a battery fastest. If it often works on a bed or a cushion, you will notice that in its battery life after a few years.
How to check your battery
- Open System Settings → Battery and look at the battery condition. If it says "Service recommended", it is time.
- You find the cycle count under System Information → Power.
- Is the trackpad bulging, does the lid no longer close flat, or does the machine rock on the table? Then the battery has swollen. Stop charging and bring it in: a swollen battery presses on the parts around it.
