Sony WH-1000XM headphone repair in Amsterdam: XM4, XM5 and XM6

Peeling ear pads, a creaking or cracked headband, a battery that fades or a port that fails: what wears out on Sony WH-1000XM headphones.

Sony WH-1000XM headphone repair in Amsterdam: XM4, XM5 and XM6

Sony's WH-1000XM headphones are some of the most popular noise-cancelling headphones around, and they are carried everywhere. A lot of what goes wrong is the same few wear points, and the parts involved are inexpensive compared with a new pair.

Blue Apple repairs Sony WH-1000X headphones at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam. Every model has its own page with the repairs we offer for it: start at the Sony headphones repair page.

What usually goes wrong with Sony WH-1000X headphones

  • Ear pads that peel or flatten. The cushions are the first thing to wear, and on the XM4 in particular they peel after a couple of years of daily use. Worn pads also reduce the seal that the noise cancelling relies on.
  • Headband that creaks or cracks near the hinges. The sliders and hinges are where the folding and the daily carrying put strain. A creak is an early warning, a crack means the headphones should not be bent further.
  • Battery that no longer lasts. A battery that once gave a full day now needs charging by lunchtime. That is normal wear and can be replaced.
  • USB-C port that is loose or dirty. A charge that only works at an angle, or only some of the time.
  • Connection problems. Reset the headphones and update them with the Sony Headphones Connect app before you suspect hardware; if one ear still drops out, there may be a fault in the cup.

The Sony models we repair

Every model below has its own page, with the repairs we offer for it and what each one costs.

Sony WH-1000XM6, Sony WH-1000XM5, Sony WH-1000XM4, Sony ULT Wear.

Repair or replace?

A new XM6 is a considerable purchase; refreshing an XM4 or XM5 with new ear pads, or replacing a headband or battery, costs a fraction of that. Replacing makes sense only for a pair with several serious faults at once. We tell you after the diagnosis.

Looking after your headphones

  • Fold them flat into the case. Do not crush them into a bag; the hinge areas take the strain.
  • Replace the ear pads when they peel. Peeling pads are also worse for your skin and the noise cancelling.
  • Do not leave them in the sun or a hot car. Heat ages the battery and the pads.

Questions about Sony repair

Can the ear pads on a Sony WH-1000XM be replaced?

Yes. We replace the ear cushions on all of the models listed on our Sony headphones page.

My headphones creak when I move my head. Is that a problem?

It can be an early sign of wear at the headband hinges. If it creaks, handle them gently; if there is a visible crack, bring them in before it gets worse.

In short

Ear pads, headband, battery and port can each be replaced on a Sony WH-1000XM, and refreshing a pair is usually far cheaper than buying new.
