Liquid damage on your MacBook Pro 13" A1708 (2016-2017)
Coffee, tea, wine or a glass of water over the keyboard: with a MacBook every hour counts. The water itself is rarely the problem. Corrosion is, and it starts as soon as there is power on the board while there is moisture between the parts.
The butterfly keyboard on this MacBook Pro has hardly any space under the keys, so liquid reaches the board quickly. Because the SSD is a separate part rather than on the board, your files can often still be saved after liquid damage, even when the board has taken a hit.
What to do straight away
- Switch the MacBook off immediately and unplug the charger. Do not check whether it still works.
- Open it and stand it upside down like a tent so the liquid can run out.
- No rice and no hair dryer: they remove nothing and only push the moisture further in.
- Bring it in as soon as you can, even if it still seems to work. Corrosion carries on while the machine looks healthy.
