Liquid damage on your MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro/Max A2442 (2021)
Coffee, tea, wine or a glass of water over the keyboard: with a MacBook every hour counts. The water itself is rarely the problem. Corrosion is, and it starts as soon as there is power on the board while there is moisture between the parts.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro has fans and air intakes on the underside. If it stands in a puddle, moisture gets in that way too. The board is densely packed with many power rails, and that is exactly where corrosion does the most damage if power stays on.
What to do straight away
- Switch the MacBook off immediately and unplug the charger. Do not check whether it still works.
- Open it and stand it upside down like a tent so the liquid can run out.
- No rice and no hair dryer: they remove nothing and only push the moisture further in.
- Bring it in as soon as you can, even if it still seems to work. Corrosion carries on while the machine looks healthy.
