A DJI Ronin or RS gimbal keeps a camera level while you walk, run or pan. It only does that when all three motorised axes, the sensors and the cable to the camera work together, so a knock in a bag, a camera that was never balanced or a handle that stopped charging can end a shoot.
Blue Apple looks at DJI gimbals in Amsterdam. The DJI Ronin & RS gimbals page lists the models with their own pages, what a typical repair is estimated to cost and how to send us a request.
What usually goes wrong with DJI gimbals
- Axis motor fault or motor-overload error. An axis that stalls, buzzes or refuses to move, or an overload message right after switching on. Often it starts with an axis lock that is still closed or a camera that is out of balance, but a worn motor or a damaged cable can give the same message.
- Drift, wobble or a tilted horizon. A horizon that slowly leans, or a picture that keeps shaking after calibration, usually points to a sensor or motor problem rather than a setting.
- Handle battery or charging fault. A handle that no longer charges, runs flat very quickly or switches off under load.
- USB-C port or camera-control cable fault. A loose or damaged USB-C port, or a camera that no longer starts or stops recording from the gimbal because of the control cable.
- Joystick, trigger, button or touchscreen fault. Worn or sticky controls, or a touchscreen that no longer reacts, on the models that have one.
- Main-board fault. A gimbal that will not power on at all, or that restarts by itself. After a hard knock or water, the board decides whether a repair makes sense.
Models we look at
These are the DJI gimbals we list, from the compact RSC 2 to the Ronin 4D, each with its own page and an estimate of what a typical repair costs. The Ronin 4D is on the list because it is a cinema camera and a stabiliser in one body.
Handheld gimbals: DJI RS 5, DJI RS 4 Pro, DJI RS 4, DJI RS 3 Pro, DJI RS 3, DJI RS 2, DJI RSC 2, DJI Ronin-S.
Cinema: DJI Ronin 4D-6K, DJI Ronin 4D-8K.
Repair or replace?
A repair is often worth it when the fault is a motor, a cable, a port, a control or the handle battery: you keep a gimbal whose balance, plates and accessories you already know. It makes less sense when the board of a very old model is dead, or when the estimate comes close to the price of a newer gimbal. We tell you after the diagnosis, before any work starts. The DJI Osmo cameras and pocket gimbals have their own page: DJI Osmo. The drones are on DJI drones.
Looking after your gimbal
- Balance the camera before you switch on. A camera that hangs too far forward or is too heavy for the model makes the motors work against the weight.
- Lock the axes for transport. A gimbal that ends up in a bag with its axes free can bend an arm or strain a motor.
- Never turn an axis by force while the gimbal is on. Move an axis by hand only when the gimbal is off.
- Look after the cable and the port. Pull the plug, never the cable, and keep dust out of the USB-C port.
- Charge the handle battery now and then. A battery that sits empty for months ages faster.
How a repair works at Blue Apple
The prices for these devices are estimates until we have seen them. Send a request with the model and what is wrong, and we tell you what a repair is likely to cost and how to get the gimbal to us. The final price is confirmed in writing after the diagnosis, before any work starts. You can use the custom repair form, or call 020 239 11 93.
Common questions
Do you repair DJI RS and Ronin gimbals?
Often, yes, depending on the model and the parts. Send a request and we tell you what is realistic. The models we list are on the DJI Ronin & RS gimbals page.
My gimbal says motor overload. Is it broken?
Not always. Check the camera balance and make sure the axis locks are open. If the message stays, a motor, a cable or a board is the likely cause, and the diagnosis tells you which.
Do you repair the DJI Ronin 4D?
We list the Ronin 4D-6K and 4D-8K with an estimate. Because the Ronin 4D is a cinema camera as well as a stabiliser, we confirm per unit what we can do before you send anything.
In short
Axis motors, calibration drift, handle batteries, ports and cables, controls and boards are what fail on DJI gimbals, and the diagnosis tells you what pays. See the DJI Ronin & RS gimbals page for the models and repairs, or send us a request. You will find us at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam, and you can call 020 239 11 93 with a question first.
