What each repair involves

On almost every modern device the glass, the display panel and the touch layer are laminated into one piece at the factory, so a crack is rarely only cosmetic. Dirt and moisture travel through it to the layers underneath, which is how broken glass becomes an image full of lines or a touch layer that taps on its own a few weeks later. That is why the whole assembly is replaced rather than the glass alone.

You might notice

  • The glass is cracked
  • The screen is black but it still rings or vibrates
  • Touch does not respond, or taps by itself
  • There are green, pink or white lines across the display
  • Part of the image is missing or discoloured

What we check first

Whether the display and the touch layer are both affected or only one, whether the backlight is still working, and whether the sensors and cameras that sit behind the screen came through the impact. If the device still shows an image we check touch across the whole surface, not just the middle.

Blue Apple battery — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

A lithium battery loses a little capacity with every charge cycle, and after a few years the problem is not only how long it lasts. It can no longer deliver the peak current the device asks for, so it cuts out under a heavy app or in the cold even though the percentage says otherwise. If the battery also swells it pushes against the screen or the case from the inside, and then leaving it costs you a second part.

You might notice

  • The battery drains much faster than it used to
  • It shuts down suddenly with charge left
  • It only works while plugged in
  • It gets warm while charging
  • The screen or the back is starting to lift

What we check first

The battery is measured out rather than replaced on the strength of the complaint. If it turns out to be healthy we tell you that, because a device that drains fast can also be a worn charging port or something running in the background.

Tested before you get it back

Charging from empty · Behaviour under load · The device holds a charge while idle

Charging port — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

A port that will not charge is surprisingly often not broken. Lint from a pocket or a bag gets pressed further in by the plug every time until there is a hard plug of it at the bottom, and then the cable cannot seat deeply enough to make contact. Where the port itself has failed it is sometimes a separate part and sometimes soldered to the board, and that changes both the price and how long it takes.

You might notice

  • It only charges if the cable is held at a certain angle
  • It has stopped charging altogether
  • The cable falls out on its own
  • It says there is liquid in the connector

What we check first

First a cable and an adapter we know are good, because the fault is in one of those often enough to matter. Then the port under magnification, for debris, bent contacts and corrosion. If cleaning is all it needs, that is all we do.

Tested before you get it back

Charging with our cable and with yours · The cable holds without being propped up · Data transfer where the port carries it

Rear camera — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

Three different things produce a bad photo and they cost different amounts to fix. Scratches or cracks in the glass in front of the lens scatter light, which gives that washed-out haze and is often the cheapest of the three. A module knocked in a drop rattles because the stabiliser has come loose, and that means the module. And sometimes the camera is fine and the connection to the board is not, which leaves a black image in an app that opens normally.

You might notice

  • Photos are blurry or hazy
  • The camera app opens but the image stays black
  • It rattles when you shake it gently
  • Focus hunts and never settles

What we check first

The lens glass under magnification, then the module and its connector, and both cameras tested before any part is ordered.

Tested before you get it back

Stills and video on every lens · Autofocus and stabilisation · Flash

Front camera — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

The front camera sits in the same assembly as the sensors above the screen, so a front-camera fault often follows a screen repair done without transferring that assembly, or a drop that landed on the top edge. It is a smaller job than the rear camera on most devices.

You might notice

  • Selfies are blurry or dark
  • The front camera shows nothing
  • Video calls show a black square

What we check first

The module and its connector, and whether the sensors beside it still work — on a device with face recognition those two are neighbours and are worth checking together.

Tested before you get it back

Stills and video on the front camera · Face recognition where the device has it

See this repair →
Face ID — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

Face recognition lives in a sensor module above the screen, not in the screen itself. That matters twice over: it survives a screen replacement as long as the module is transferred, and it cannot be restored by fitting a new screen if the module itself was damaged or swapped out. If it stopped working after a repair elsewhere, that is usually what happened.

You might notice

  • Face recognition has stopped working
  • It says the feature is unavailable
  • It stopped after a screen repair somewhere else

What we check first

Whether the module is present, connected and undamaged, and whether the fault is the module or the flex cable to it. We are straight about the odds before you commit: this is one of the repairs where the answer is sometimes no.

Face recognition unlocks reliably · It works in the dark · Front camera

Earpiece speaker — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

The earpiece is a small speaker behind a mesh that fills with dust and pocket lint over the years, so a quiet earpiece is sometimes just a blocked one. Where the speaker itself has failed it is usually a separate part, and on many devices it sits in the assembly above the screen with the sensors.

You might notice

  • Callers are very quiet
  • The sound is distorted or crackling
  • You can only hear people on speakerphone

What we check first

Whether the mesh is blocked, whether the fault is the earpiece or the main speaker, and whether it happens on calls only or on everything.

Tested before you get it back

A test call at several volumes · The main speaker · The microphone

Back cover / housing — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

From outside it is a sheet of glass; from inside it is a structural layer with the antennas and, on devices that support it, the wireless charging coil pressed against it. Getting it off means heat and controlled pressure without disturbing those, and they are transferred to the new panel. One thing we say in advance: a device that has been opened is never sealed quite as well as it was from the factory.

You might notice

  • The back glass is cracked
  • Glass splinters are coming loose
  • Wireless charging has stopped working

What we check first

Whether the back is a separate panel on this model or part of the frame, because on some devices that means replacing more than the glass. You hear which before a price is agreed.

Tested before you get it back

Wireless charging where the device has it · Mobile and Wi-Fi signal · Fresh sealing fitted

Water damage — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

The water is rarely what finishes a device — corrosion is. While there is voltage on a board with liquid between its layers, current flows where it should not and the traces eat themselves. That is why switching it off comes before everything else, and why charging it to see whether it still works is the worst thing you can do. Rice and a hairdryer move moisture around rather than removing it, and coffee, beer or seawater leave salt and sugar that keep working after the surface is dry. We open the device, clean the board, remove the corrosion and measure the circuits to find what has been affected. We will not promise an outcome: what can be saved depends on what went in, how long it stayed powered, and what it reached. You hear the honest odds after the free diagnosis, and if you say no it has cost you nothing.

You might notice

  • It went in water or something was spilled on it
  • It worked after drying and then stopped
  • It says there is liquid in the connector
  • It has been behaving oddly since it got wet

What we check first

How far the liquid travelled, which components show corrosion, and whether the storage is still readable. That assessment is the diagnosis, and it is free.

Tested before you get it back

Everything the liquid reached · Charging and battery behaviour · Cameras, speakers and microphones · Wi-Fi and mobile signal

Logic board — iPhone 18 Pro Price on request

Most workshops swap complete assemblies and send a board fault somewhere else. We measure the board, trace the failure to the component causing it and replace that — a shorted power rail after liquid, a burnt-out charging chip after a bad adapter, a damaged backlight circuit that leaves you reading the screen by torchlight. It is soldering under a microscope on parts the size of a grain of sand and it takes longer than anything else here. What it buys you is that your own board stays in the device, and with it, usually, your data.

You might notice

  • It shows no sign of life
  • It will not charge and a new battery did not help
  • The screen stays black but you can hear it running
  • It restarts on its own or gets very hot

What we check first

Whether power is arriving and where it stops, before anything is said about the board — a dead battery, a broken port and a failed screen all look identical from the outside, and all are cheaper.

Tested before you get it back

It starts and stays running · Charging from empty · The board temperature under load · The storage is still readable

Before you bring it in

None of this is required — you can walk in without doing any of it. It just makes the visit shorter and, in one case, protects your device.

  1. 1 Back up if you still can, through iCloud, a computer or whatever you normally use. Most repairs leave your storage untouched, but a device that has already taken a knock is exactly the one you want a copy of.
  2. 2 Bring it charged if it still powers on. A device with some charge can be tested properly before and after the work, which saves a second visit.
  3. 3 Take off the case and any screen protector, and bring them with you rather than leaving them on.
  4. 4 If the complaint is about charging, bring your own cable and adapter. The fault is in one of those often enough that it is worth five minutes to rule them out.
  5. 5 Know your passcode, and your Apple ID or Google account details if the device asks for them. We cannot test a repair on a device nobody can unlock.
  6. 6 If liquid has been involved, switch the device off and leave it off — do not charge it to see whether it still works. Corrosion keeps going while there is voltage on the board, so every hour counts. Rice does nothing.
  7. 7 If the screen or the back is lifting, or the device no longer sits flat, stop charging it and bring it in. That is a swelling battery, and using it makes the damage spread to parts that were fine.

How the repair works

  1. 1

    Free diagnosis

We establish what is actually wrong rather than what it looks like, because a device that will not charge and a device that will not turn on often have the same cause and different fixes.

  2. 2

    Price and options first

You hear what it costs and, where there is a choice of part, what each one means, before anything is opened. If we think the repair is not worth it, we say so then.

  3. 3

    The repair

On a phone, most of the common jobs are done while you wait. A tablet, laptop, watch or console is left with us, and you are told at drop-off roughly how long it will be.

  4. 4

    Testing

The part we fitted is tested, and so is everything around it that the work could have disturbed.

  5. 5

    Collection

Come and get it, or have it collected and returned if you would rather not make the trip. Whatever we replaced carries a warranty, set out in our terms.

What we test before you get it back

Only the things the work could have affected. A list of everything on the device would look thorough and mean nothing.

  • Image across the whole display
  • Touch in every corner
  • Brightness and auto-brightness

Repair or replace?

Repairing usually makes sense when

  • The device works apart from the one thing that is broken.
  • A single part is at fault, and it is one that comes off on its own.
  • The repair costs a fraction of a replacement.
  • You want to keep this device, and what is on it.

Worth a diagnosis before deciding when

  • Several things are wrong at once, which often means one underlying cause.
  • Liquid has been involved, because what can be saved depends on what the board looks like inside.
  • The fault is on the board, where the work is longer and the outcome is less predictable.
  • The physical damage is extensive — a bent frame or a case that no longer closes changes what is possible.

We will not tell you to repair something that is not worth repairing. On an older device with an expensive part, the honest answer is sometimes to put the money towards a replacement, and you will hear that from us.

Repairing a current model

This is one of the newest devices we carry, which changes what a repair looks like. Parts are current rather than salvaged, so where more than one quality of screen is available the question is which one you want rather than whether anything can be had at all. The device is also almost certainly too new for wear to be the cause: on a handset this recent a fault is nearly always an accident — a drop, a spill, a bad charger — rather than something reaching the end of its life. That is worth saying because it usually means one part is at fault and everything around it is fine, which is the cheapest situation to be in. And with the device still worth most of what you paid, a repair is almost always the sensible side of the repair-or-replace question.

Why bring a iPhone 18 Pro to Blue Apple

The price before the work

Your model has a price per repair on this page. Where a price cannot be known in advance — liquid damage, board-level faults — you get it after the free diagnosis, and it does not move afterwards.

Board-level repair

Most workshops swap whole assemblies and send a board fault elsewhere. We trace the fault to the component and replace that, which is cheaper and keeps your own board, and usually your own data, in the device.

A choice of part where one exists

Where more than one quality of screen or battery is available for your model, you choose, and you see the price of each before deciding.

An honest no

When a repair costs more than the device is worth, or the odds are poor, we tell you before you commit. The diagnosis is free either way.

In Amsterdam Zuid

Rijnstraat 76-H in the Rivierenbuurt, walking distance from Amsterdam RAI. Collection and return, or insured post, if you cannot come in.

What to watch for on a Pro model

The Pro models have a ProMotion display with a higher refresh rate and a heavier camera system, and you see that at repair time: the screen costs more than the standard model from the same generation, and the back glass sits closer to the lenses. The frame is steel or titanium, which makes the phone heavier, so a drop lands harder on the glass. Face ID sits in a sensor module separate from the screen, so we transfer it during a screen replacement and Face ID keeps working. With a genuine Apple screen, True Tone stays available too.
