E-bikes and charging equipment run on electronics, a display, a controller, a communication module, and these are what fail rather than the battery cells or the mechanics. Mains and battery electricity is dangerous, so this is a category where the honest answer begins with what we are qualified to do and what you should never try yourself.
Blue Apple repairs e-mobility and charging electronics in Amsterdam. The e-mobility and charging page lists the brands we work with, what typical repairs cost and how to send us a request.
What usually goes wrong with e-mobility and charging electronics
- E-bike display fault. A display that is dark, shows an error or no longer responds to its buttons, while the bike itself is fine.
- Controller or motor driver fault. An e-bike that gives no assistance, cuts out or throws an error that does not clear.
- Charging port or charger fault. A bike that will not charge, a charger that will not output or a port that has worn.
- CAN or Bluetooth module fault. A bike that does not talk to its app, or whose components no longer communicate.
- EV charger control board fault. A charging station that does not start, shows an error or does not recognise a car.
- Charging communication fault. A charger that powers up but will not talk to the vehicle.

Popular models: Wallbox Pulsar Plus (11 kW), Easee Home, Alfen Eve Single S-line, ABB Terra AC wallbox (11 kW), Bosch Performance Line CX drive unit, Segway Ninebot MAX G2, Shimano EP801 drive unit, Specialized Turbo Vado 4.0.
Repair or replace?
A display, a controller or a charger board costs far less than a new bike or wall box, and is usually worth repairing. Electrical and high-voltage work, including EV batteries and charging stations, requires specialist training: we only accept work we are qualified and equipped to carry out, and we say so after a first look. Never open a charger or a battery pack yourself.
Looking after your e-bike or charger
- Use the original charger. A wrong charger is a common cause of controller and battery faults.
- Keep connectors dry and clean. Moisture in a charging port causes corrosion and errors.
- Do not ride or charge a damaged battery. A battery that has taken a hard impact or swelled needs specialist advice.
