The BitBox02 is a small Swiss hardware wallet that you operate by touching its sides. That is elegant, and it also means the parts that fail are the ones you use every time: the USB-C connector, the touch sensors and the little screen. The keys inside are separate from all of that.
Blue Apple repairs BitBox02 hardware wallets at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam. Every model has its own page with the repairs we offer for it: start at the BitBox02 repair page.
What usually goes wrong with BitBox02 hardware wallets
- USB-C connector worn or loose. The most common fault. A wallet that only connects at an angle or drops out when the cable moves has a connector that is coming off the board.
- Touch sensors that do not respond. The sides of the BitBox02 are touch-sensitive, and you confirm everything with them. Dirt, moisture or a failing sensor means taps are missed or registered at the wrong place.
- Screen with lines or nothing at all. After a drop or pressure in a bag, the small display can fail while the device still starts.
- MicroSD slot. The BitBox02 uses a microSD card for backup. A slot that no longer holds the card or reads it makes setup and restore impossible.
- Moisture damage. Corrosion on the board keeps spreading after the device has dried, so it is best looked at soon.
The BitBox02 models we repair
Every model below has its own page, with the repairs we offer for it and what each one costs.
Repair or replace?
If you still have your backup, a new BitBox02 with a restore is usually quicker than a repair. A repair is the right choice when you cannot restore from a backup and the device holds your only way in. We do not need your backup or your keys for a hardware repair, and we cannot recover keys that are gone.
Looking after your BitBox02
- Store the backup separately from the device. A backup in the same bag as the wallet protects against nothing.
- Use a good cable and plug in straight. Most connector failures start with a cable pulled at an angle.
- Keep the sides clean. Wipe the touch surfaces with a dry cloth if taps are missed.

Questions about BitBox02 repair
Do you need my backup or passphrase to repair it?
No. A hardware repair does not need your backup, your passphrase or any keys, and we will never ask for them.
My BitBox02 is not found by the BitBoxApp. Is it broken?
Often it is the cable or the port. Try another cable and another computer first; if it still does not show up, bring it in and we check the connector.
