MacBook Air M1 to M5 repair in Amsterdam: 13 and 15 inch

The MacBook Air with Apple chips is the laptop most people use without thinking about it: silent, light, and cool to the touch. When one fails, the cause is usually one of a short list, and the thing that makes the repair different from older laptops is that the storage is not removable.

Blue Apple repairs the MacBook Air with Apple chips, 13 and 15 inch, from the M1 to the M5, and the MacBook Neo, at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam. Each model has its own page with the repairs we offer for it: start at the MacBook repair page.

What is different about the MacBook Air with M1 to M5

  • No fan. These Airs are cooled passively and run silent, which also means there is no fan to fail or clog. A hot Air is a sign of something wrong inside, not of dust.
  • Soldered memory and storage. The memory and the storage are on the logic board. A board that fails takes your files with it until it is repaired, so a backup matters more than on older laptops.
  • MagSafe from the M2 on. The M2 Air brought back the MagSafe charging port, and the later models keep it. The M1 Air charges over its Thunderbolt ports only.
  • Touch ID and a laminated display. The screen is a sealed assembly with the glass bonded to the panel. A cracked glass means a new display, not just a new glass.

What usually goes wrong with the MacBook Air with Apple chips

  • Cracked or damaged display. A crack, lines or a dark patch. The display is replaced as one unit, and the model page lists what we offer for yours.
  • Battery that has swollen or faded. A swollen battery lifts the trackpad or the case and must not be charged. A faded one means a laptop that needs the charger all day.
  • No power, or does not charge. A dead Air can be a charger or cable, a worn port or a fault on the logic board. We measure where power stops before we say anything about cost.
  • Liquid damage. A spill can ruin the board even if the laptop kept working at first. Switch it off and bring it in straight away.
  • Port that is loose or no longer reads. A Thunderbolt or MagSafe port worn by daily plugging.

Repair or replace?

An Air with an Apple chip holds its value well, and a repair is usually a fraction of a new one. The clear cases for repair are a display, a battery or a port. If the logic board has failed, we say after the diagnosis whether a board-level repair is in proportion for that model and whether your data can be saved.

Looking after your MacBook Air

  • Back up with Time Machine. Storage is on the board, so a board fault is the one thing a backup is for.
  • Do not close the lid on a pen or a charger. It is the commonest way a display cracks without a fall.
  • Do not leave it on a bed or a sofa. With no fan, it needs a hard surface to stay cool.
