The Keystone 3 Pro works air-gapped: it never connects to a computer or phone by cable or wireless, and you pass transactions back and forth as QR codes. That depends on three things working well, the camera, the screen and the battery, and those are the parts that fail first.

What usually goes wrong with Keystone hardware wallets
- Battery that no longer lasts. An air-gapped wallet runs on its own battery most of the time. After a few years it runs flat quickly, or only works while it is on the charger.
- Camera that cannot scan QR codes. A scratched or dirty lens, or a camera module that has failed, makes signing impossible even though the rest of the device works.
- Touchscreen faults. A cracked or unresponsive display after a drop, or touches that register in the wrong place.
- Fingerprint sensor problems. A sensor that stops recognising you can be dirt or wear, or a failing module. The PIN remains the fallback.
- USB-C charging port. The port is used for charging; a worn one means the battery cannot be filled.

Repair or replace?
Wallets like this are designed to protect their keys even against someone who opens the case, so a repair that involves opening it can, depending on the design, put the keys at risk. That is one more reason to rely on your recovery phrase rather than on the device. If you have the phrase, a new device and a restore may be the simpler path; if you do not, we tell you before we start what is and is not realistic.
Looking after your Keystone
- Keep the recovery phrase offline. We never ask for it and never need it for a hardware repair.
- Clean the camera lens gently. A soft cloth is enough; scratches on the lens make scanning unreliable.
- Charge it occasionally. A battery that sits empty for months ages faster.
