Laboratory and scientific instruments are different from most equipment, because a repair is only worth something if the instrument is afterwards trusted. That depends on calibration, traceability and the rules your lab works under. So the useful starting point is not what is broken but whether the instrument can be repaired in a way your lab can accept.
Blue Apple repairs laboratory and scientific equipment in Amsterdam. The laboratory and scientific equipment page lists the brands we work with, what typical repairs cost and how to send us a request.
What usually goes wrong with laboratory and scientific equipment
- Display fault. A screen that is dark, has lines or shows nothing, on an instrument that otherwise works.
- Power-supply or power-circuit fault. An instrument that will not start, or restarts, with a failed supply or a damaged power section.
- Connector or input fault. A damaged input, a worn connector or a port that no longer makes contact.
- Control-board fault. An instrument that powers up but does not respond, or stops during a run.
- Sensor or measurement fault. Readings that drift, jump or are clearly wrong. This can be a sensor, an input stage or calibration.

These are the laboratory and scientific brands we list, and some of the models with their own pages. Availability is confirmed per instrument.
Brands: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Agilent Technologies, Keysight Technologies, Fluke Biomedical, Beckman Coulter, Sartorius, Mettler Toledo, Leica Microsystems.
Popular models: Sartorius Entris II Advanced analytical balance, Mettler Toledo ME204 analytical balance, Thermo Scientific Pico 17 microcentrifuge, Leica DM500 microscope, Agilent 34972A, Keysight DSOX1204G, Fluke Biomedical ESA615, Beckman Coulter Allegra X-30.
Repair or replace?
This is a specialist category, offered only when qualified technicians, traceable calibration and compliance requirements are in place, and availability is confirmed per instrument. In a regulated lab a repair can require recalibration or documentation, and a repair by anyone other than the manufacturer can affect a service contract or compliance, so check with your quality manager first.
Looking after your instrument
- Follow the calibration schedule. An instrument out of calibration is worse than a broken one: it looks right.
- Keep the inputs protected. Overvoltage on an input is one of the most common ways to damage an instrument.
- Do not open an instrument under a service contract. It can void the contract.
How a repair works at Blue Apple
The prices for these devices are estimates until we have seen them. Send a request with the model and what is wrong, and we tell you what a repair is likely to cost and how to get the device to us. The final price is confirmed in writing after the diagnosis, before any work starts. You can use the custom repair form, or call 020 239 11 93.
Common questions
Can you repair my laboratory instrument?
It depends on the instrument. Send a request with the make, the model and the fault, and we confirm whether we can take it on before you send anything.
Do you calibrate instruments after a repair?
A repair does not replace a calibration. If your work requires traceable calibration, have the instrument calibrated by an accredited laboratory afterwards.
