The Mac mini is small, quiet and easy to forget about, which is why it ends up as a home server, a studio computer or a desk machine for years. When it stops, it stops in one of a handful of ways, and most of them are repairable at component level without replacing the whole machine.
Blue Apple repairs Mac mini computers at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam. Every model has its own page with the repairs we offer for it: start at the Mac mini repair page.
What usually goes wrong with Mac mini computers
- Does not start, no light, no sound. The power supply is inside the case. A dead mini can be a failed supply, a power rail on the logic board after a surge, or simply a socket or cable. The first check is whether power arrives at all.
- No picture on the screen. A mini that runs, with fans and a start-up sound, but no image on any display points at the graphics output, the HDMI or Thunderbolt port, or the board. It helps to test another cable and display first.
- Loud fan or overheating. A fan that runs flat out for no clear reason is usually dust, or a fan that is wearing out. On an older Intel model a dried-out thermal paste layer adds to it.
- Weak Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. On many minis the antennas sit in the base plate. A connection that has come loose after earlier work, or a damaged antenna, gives a signal that drops as soon as you move the Mac a metre.
- Stuck on the logo, or corrupted storage. On Apple Silicon models and the 2018 Intel the storage is soldered to the board. If the machine will not start, getting data off means working on the board itself.

Repair or replace?
A Mac mini holds its value better than most computers, and a board-level repair is often far cheaper than buying a new one. The case for replacing is a very old Intel model whose repair would cost more than the same money towards a new M-series mini. We tell you the numbers after the diagnosis, and whether the data can be saved.
Looking after your Mac mini
- Keep the vents clear. Do not push the mini into a closed cupboard or under a pile of cables; the air enters at the base and leaves at the back.
- Use a surge protector. A power surge is one of the quieter ways a logic board dies.
- Keep a backup. Soldered storage means a dead board holds your data hostage. Time Machine to an external drive takes ten minutes to set up.

Questions about Mac mini repair
Can you get my data off a Mac mini that will not start?
Often, yes. Because the storage is on the board, it means a board-level repair first. We tell you after the diagnosis whether the data can be saved, without promising it beforehand.
Which Mac mini models do you repair?
Everything from the 2018 Intel mini to the latest M-series, including the Pro versions: each has its own page on the Mac mini page.
