The 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pro is the laptop people work on for a living, and it is built for it: bright mini-LED display, plenty of ports and the fans to keep a hard-working chip cool. That also makes it a laptop where an hour without it costs more than the repair, and where the right question after a fault is what failed.
Blue Apple repairs the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch with M1, M2, M3, M4 and M5 chips at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam. Each model has its own page with the repairs we offer for it: start at the MacBook repair page.
What is different about the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch
- A mini-LED display. The Liquid Retina XDR display is made of many small backlight zones. It is a sophisticated and costly part, and a damaged one shows as lines, dark patches or a flickering backlight.
- MagSafe, HDMI and an SD slot. Since 2021 the Pro has a MagSafe port, an HDMI port and an SD card slot besides the Thunderbolt ports. Each is a separate component that can wear.
- Fans and a notch. These laptops have fans and a camera notch in the display. Dust in the fans is a cause of noise, and the display repair has to carry the camera and sensors across.
- Soldered storage. The storage and memory are on the logic board, so a dead board holds your files until it is repaired.
What usually goes wrong with the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch
- Damaged display. Lines, dark or flickering areas or a crack. The model page lists the display options we offer and what each costs.
- Battery that has faded or swollen. A swollen battery lifts the trackpad or the case. A faded one means you carry the charger everywhere.
- Port that no longer works. A Thunderbolt, MagSafe, HDMI or SD port that is loose, dead or has been damaged by a pulled cable.
- Keyboard backlight or speaker faults. Part of the keyboard unlit, or crackling speakers, usually a fault in the keyboard assembly or the speaker module.
- Liquid damage. A spill. Switch it off and bring it in before the corrosion spreads.

Repair or replace?
A 14 or 16 inch MacBook Pro is expensive to replace and holds its value, so a repair is nearly always worth doing for a display, a battery or a port. When a logic board has failed, the question is whether a board-level repair is in proportion and whether your data can be saved, and we say so after the diagnosis.
Looking after your MacBook Pro
- Use a cable with strain relief on the ports. A cable pulled at an angle damages the port, not just the plug.
- Clean the fans every year or two. Dust is the commonest cause of fan noise.
- Back up before travel. A laptop on the move is one that gets dropped.
