The Marshall Woburn III and the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin are both speakers people buy to be seen as well as heard. Both are heavy, well built and have electronics that should last, and both fail in ways that are very repairable.
Blue Apple repairs Marshall and Bowers & Wilkins speakers at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam. Every model has its own page with the repairs we offer for it: start at the sound systems repair page.
What usually goes wrong with Marshall and Bowers & Wilkins speakers
- Crackling or dead knobs on a Marshall. The volume, bass and treble knobs are potentiometers. They crackle as they wear and in time stop registering.
- No power, or the speaker switches off. A dead speaker or one that cuts out under load points at the power supply or the amplifier.
- Bluetooth or Wi-Fi that will not connect. Try forgetting and re-pairing first. If the speaker does not appear at all, the module can be at fault.
- Distortion or one driver silent. A damaged woofer or tweeter, or an amplifier channel that has failed.
- Damaged fabric or grille. The Zeppelin's fabric and the Marshall's front cloth can stain or tear; both are cosmetic repairs we can look at.

Repair or replace?
Both are expensive new and worth repairing. A new knob, board or driver costs a fraction of a new speaker. We tell you after the diagnosis whether a given fault is worth repairing on an older unit.
Looking after your speaker
- Wipe gently. A soft dry cloth for the fabric and the finish.
- Keep them away from heat and damp. Both damage electronics over years.
- Use a surge protector. The amplifier boards are the usual casualty of a power spike.
