Potensic ATOM drones are light, foldable and affordable, which is why many people buy them as a first serious drone and fly them hard. They have a three-axis gimbal and GPS like their more expensive rivals, and the same few things go wrong with them.

What usually goes wrong with Potensic drones
- Gimbal and camera faults. A gimbal error at start-up, a camera that tilts, or footage that suddenly shakes. The gimbal motors and its flat cable are the usual cause after a rough landing.
- Propellers and motors. Propellers are cheap and get damaged first. A motor that sounds rough or is hot after a short flight needs a look.
- Battery faults. Batteries lose capacity with age and deep discharge. A swollen or hot battery has to be replaced.
- GPS and compass problems. A drone that will not get a GPS lock or drifts in hover may have a disturbed sensor.
- Controller sticks and charging port. Drifting sticks and worn ports on the controller or the drone.

Repair or replace?
Because ATOM drones are affordable, the repair has to be proportionate. A gimbal, motor or battery costs far less than a new ATOM 3, but for an old ATOM SE with several faults at once, a replacement may be more sensible. We give you the numbers after the diagnosis.
Looking after your drone
- Fly within sight and away from trees. Branches are the most common reason a propeller breaks.
- Replace propellers as a set. A chipped one causes vibration that wears the motors.
- Store the battery partly charged. Neither full nor empty.
