What each repair involves
Apple original — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 850,00
On almost every modern device the glass, the display panel and the touch layer are laminated into one piece at the factory, so a crack is rarely only cosmetic. Dirt and moisture travel through it to the layers underneath, which is how broken glass becomes an image full of lines or a touch layer that taps on its own a few weeks later. That is why the whole assembly is replaced rather than the glass alone.
You might notice
- The glass is cracked
- The screen is black but it still rings or vibrates
- Touch does not respond, or taps by itself
- There are green, pink or white lines across the display
- Part of the image is missing or discoloured
What we check first
Whether the display and the touch layer are both affected or only one, whether the backlight is still working, and whether the sensors and cameras that sit behind the screen came through the impact. If the device still shows an image we check touch across the whole surface, not just the middle.
Tested before you get it back
Image across the whole display · Touch in every corner · Brightness and auto-brightness · Front camera and sensors behind the screen
Blue Apple battery — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 179,00
A lithium battery loses a little capacity with every charge cycle, and after a few years the problem is not only how long it lasts. It can no longer deliver the peak current the device asks for, so it cuts out under a heavy app or in the cold even though the percentage says otherwise. If the battery also swells it pushes against the screen or the case from the inside, and then leaving it costs you a second part.
You might notice
- The battery drains much faster than it used to
- It shuts down suddenly with charge left
- It only works while plugged in
- It gets warm while charging
- The screen or the back is starting to lift
What we check first
The battery is measured out rather than replaced on the strength of the complaint. If it turns out to be healthy we tell you that, because a device that drains fast can also be a worn charging port or something running in the background.
Tested before you get it back
Charging from empty · Behaviour under load · The device holds a charge while idle
USB port — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 121,00
On a laptop the ports do double duty for power and data, and a single failed one is more common than people expect — the others carrying on normally is the clue. They take mechanical strain every time something is plugged in, and on many models they are soldered to the board, which makes this soldering work rather than a swap.
You might notice
- One port has stopped working while the others are fine
- The charger only works in some ports
- Nothing happens when a device is plugged in
What we check first
Every port in turn with a known-good cable, to establish whether it is one port or the circuit behind them. We also check whether the port is the fault or the thing being plugged into it.
Tested before you get it back
Power delivery through the repaired port · Data on the repaired port · Every other port still works
Charging chip (IC) — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 220,00
The chip that manages charging sits on the board, and when it fails the symptoms look exactly like a dead battery or a broken port — which is why it is worth ruling those out first. Common causes are liquid and a surge from a poor adapter. This is soldering work under a microscope on a component the size of a grain of sand, and it takes longer than any other repair on this page.
You might notice
- It shows no sign of life at all
- It charges only sometimes, or gets hot while charging
- A new battery and a new port did not fix it
What we check first
Whether power is arriving at all and where it stops. That measurement is what separates a chip fault from the cheaper things it imitates, and it is part of the free diagnosis.
Tested before you get it back
Power draw from empty · Charging to full · The board stays cool under charge
Keyboard — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) Price on request
On a keyboard with little travel there is almost no room under a key, so a crumb or a grain of sand is enough to make one stick or register twice. Liquid is different: it does not sit on top but sinks into the membrane and the board underneath, where the damage carries on after the surface is dry. On many recent laptops the keyboard is riveted into the top case together with the battery and the trackpad, which is what makes this a longer job than it looks.
You might notice
- A key sticks or repeats itself
- A whole row has stopped working
- Something was spilled on it
What we check first
Whether it is one key mechanism or the membrane below, and whether liquid has reached the board. That determines whether a repair is possible at key level or the assembly is the job.
Tested before you get it back
Every key, including the modifiers · Backlight where the keyboard has one · The trackpad, which shares the assembly
Trackpad — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 161,00
The most common cause of a trackpad that stops clicking is not the trackpad. A swelling battery underneath pushes it up from below until there is no travel left, and replacing the trackpad in that situation buys a few weeks. The laptop no longer sitting flat is the same clue. Where the trackpad itself is at fault it is usually cracked glass or a worn flex cable, and a jumping cursor is often that cable rather than the pad.
You might notice
- It no longer clicks
- It only clicks at one edge
- The cursor jumps on its own
- The laptop rocks on a flat table
What we check first
The battery first, then the trackpad and its cable. Getting that order wrong is the expensive mistake on this repair.
Tested before you get it back
Click across the whole surface · Multi-finger gestures · The battery sits flat
Fan — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 60,00
After a few years the cooler is packed with dust and the thermal paste between the chip and the heatsink has dried out, so heat no longer leaves the machine. The fan spins up to compensate, the machine throttles itself to stay safe, and eventually it shuts down. Cleaning and fresh paste is a much smaller job than most people fear, and it is worth doing before anyone looks at the board.
You might notice
- It is loud even when doing very little
- It gets hot and slows down
- It shuts off during heavy work
What we check first
Temperatures under load, the state of the cooler and the paste, and whether the fan itself still spins freely.
Tested before you get it back
Temperatures under load · Fan noise at idle · The machine holds its speed under sustained load
Power button — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) Price on request
A power button is a mechanical switch pressed thousands of times, and it wears. On many devices it sits on a flex cable shared with the volume buttons and sometimes the fingerprint sensor, so what looks like one dead button can be one cable.
You might notice
- The button needs pressing hard, or several times
- It does nothing at all
- It is stuck in
What we check first
Whether the button, the cable or the board is at fault, and whether the neighbouring buttons still work — that usually answers it.
Tested before you get it back
Power on and off · Wake and sleep · The volume buttons on the same cable
Water damage — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 50,00
The water is rarely what finishes a device — corrosion is. While there is voltage on a board with liquid between its layers, current flows where it should not and the traces eat themselves. That is why switching it off comes before everything else, and why charging it to see whether it still works is the worst thing you can do. Rice and a hairdryer move moisture around rather than removing it, and coffee, beer or seawater leave salt and sugar that keep working after the surface is dry. We open the device, clean the board, remove the corrosion and measure the circuits to find what has been affected. We will not promise an outcome: what can be saved depends on what went in, how long it stayed powered, and what it reached. You hear the honest odds after the free diagnosis, and if you say no it has cost you nothing.
You might notice
- It went in water or something was spilled on it
- It worked after drying and then stopped
- It says there is liquid in the connector
- It has been behaving oddly since it got wet
What we check first
How far the liquid travelled, which components show corrosion, and whether the storage is still readable. That assessment is the diagnosis, and it is free.
Tested before you get it back
Everything the liquid reached · Charging and battery behaviour · Cameras, speakers and microphones · Wi-Fi and mobile signal
Logic board — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 269,00
Most workshops swap complete assemblies and send a board fault somewhere else. We measure the board, trace the failure to the component causing it and replace that — a shorted power rail after liquid, a burnt-out charging chip after a bad adapter, a damaged backlight circuit that leaves you reading the screen by torchlight. It is soldering under a microscope on parts the size of a grain of sand and it takes longer than anything else here. What it buys you is that your own board stays in the device, and with it, usually, your data.
You might notice
- It shows no sign of life
- It will not charge and a new battery did not help
- The screen stays black but you can hear it running
- It restarts on its own or gets very hot
What we check first
Whether power is arriving and where it stops, before anything is said about the board — a dead battery, a broken port and a failed screen all look identical from the outside, and all are cheaper.
Tested before you get it back
It starts and stays running · Charging from empty · The board temperature under load · The storage is still readable
Cleaning — MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) € 29,00
Dust in a speaker mesh, lint in a charging port and a cooler full of fluff all produce complaints that look like faults. A clean is the cheapest thing on this page and it is worth trying before anything is replaced, because often enough it is the whole repair.
You might notice
- The speakers sound muffled
- There is dust or lint in the ports
- It runs hotter or louder than it used to
What we check first
The ports, meshes and cooling under magnification, and whether cleaning is likely to solve it or only to help.
Tested before you get it back
Speaker and microphone clarity · Charging seats properly · Temperatures where cooling was cleaned
Before you bring it in
None of this is required — you can walk in without doing any of it. It just makes the visit shorter and, in one case, protects your device.
- 1 Back up if you still can, through iCloud, a computer or whatever you normally use. Most repairs leave your storage untouched, but a device that has already taken a knock is exactly the one you want a copy of.
- 2 Bring it charged if it still powers on. A device with some charge can be tested properly before and after the work, which saves a second visit.
- 3 Take off the case and any screen protector, and bring them with you rather than leaving them on.
- 4 If the complaint is about charging, bring your own cable and adapter. The fault is in one of those often enough that it is worth five minutes to rule them out.
- 5 Know your passcode, and your Apple ID or Google account details if the device asks for them. We cannot test a repair on a device nobody can unlock.
- 6 If liquid has been involved, switch the device off and leave it off — do not charge it to see whether it still works. Corrosion keeps going while there is voltage on the board, so every hour counts. Rice does nothing.
- 7 If the screen or the back is lifting, or the device no longer sits flat, stop charging it and bring it in. That is a swelling battery, and using it makes the damage spread to parts that were fine.
How the repair works
-
1
Free diagnosis
We establish what is actually wrong rather than what it looks like, because a device that will not charge and a device that will not turn on often have the same cause and different fixes.
-
2
Price and options first
You hear what it costs and, where there is a choice of part, what each one means, before anything is opened. If we think the repair is not worth it, we say so then.
-
3
The repair
On a phone, most of the common jobs are done while you wait. A tablet, laptop, watch or console is left with us, and you are told at drop-off roughly how long it will be.
-
4
Testing
The part we fitted is tested, and so is everything around it that the work could have disturbed.
-
5
Collection
Come and get it, or have it collected and returned if you would rather not make the trip. Whatever we replaced carries a warranty, set out in our terms.
What we test before you get it back
Only the things the work could have affected. A list of everything on the device would look thorough and mean nothing.

Repair or replace?
Repairing usually makes sense when
- The device works apart from the one thing that is broken.
- A single part is at fault, and it is one that comes off on its own.
- The repair costs a fraction of a replacement.
- You want to keep this device, and what is on it.
Worth a diagnosis before deciding when
- Several things are wrong at once, which often means one underlying cause.
- Liquid has been involved, because what can be saved depends on what the board looks like inside.
- The fault is on the board, where the work is longer and the outcome is less predictable.
- The physical damage is extensive — a bent frame or a case that no longer closes changes what is possible.
We will not tell you to repair something that is not worth repairing. On an older device with an expensive part, the honest answer is sometimes to put the money towards a replacement, and you will hear that from us.
Repairing a device of this age
A device a few generations back is at the point where the first thing to go is usually the battery, not anything you did. Several years of daily charging leaves it unable to deliver the peak current the device asks for, which shows up as sudden shutdowns and a percentage you cannot trust before it shows up as short battery life. It is worth having the battery measured before assuming anything worse, because at this age it explains a surprising number of complaints that look like something else. Parts are still readily available and a repair still costs far less than replacing the device. What does change is the arithmetic on the expensive repairs: a screen or a board-level fault on a device of this age is worth thinking about rather than approving automatically, and you will hear our honest view on that before you decide.
Why bring a MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro/Max A2992 (2023) to Blue Apple
The price before the work
Your model has a price per repair on this page. Where a price cannot be known in advance — liquid damage, board-level faults — you get it after the free diagnosis, and it does not move afterwards.
Board-level repair
Most workshops swap whole assemblies and send a board fault elsewhere. We trace the fault to the component and replace that, which is cheaper and keeps your own board, and usually your own data, in the device.
A choice of part where one exists
Where more than one quality of screen or battery is available for your model, you choose, and you see the price of each before deciding.
An honest no
When a repair costs more than the device is worth, or the odds are poor, we tell you before you commit. The diagnosis is free either way.
In Amsterdam Zuid

What differs on a Pro compared with an Air
The Pro models have active cooling, so here a loud or throttling machine often really is a cooling problem: dust in the fan and dried-out thermal paste produce exactly that, and cleaning is a smaller job than most people fear. On the Touch Bar models the display flex cable runs over the hinge, and years of opening and closing can wear it — which gives an unevenly lit image, or a band of light along the bottom while the rest stays dark. If there is a Touch ID sensor, it is paired to the board: it keeps working through a board repair but not through a board replacement, and we say so up front.
