What is different about the iPhone 11 series
- One LCD and two OLED screens. The iPhone 11 has a Liquid Retina LCD, the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max have OLED displays. That makes the 11's screen the simpler and usually cheaper repair, and the Pro screens a different part.
- A glass back and a camera plateau. All three have a glass back with a raised square of lenses. The glass over the cameras is a repair of its own.
- Face ID and Lightning. The 11 range has Face ID and charges over Lightning, like the 12 and 13 after it.
- Water resistance that has aged. The 11 range was sold as water resistant, but seven years of use and the odd repair mean the seals are no longer reliable.
What usually goes wrong with the iPhone 11 series
- Battery that has lost most of its capacity. By far the most common reason an iPhone 11 comes in. A new battery is the single biggest improvement for the phone.
- Cracked screen. The LCD of the 11 and the OLED of the Pros are different parts, and the model page lists the options for your phone.
- Lightning port that is dirty or worn. A charge that only works at an angle, or that comes and goes.
- Loudspeaker or microphone problems. Crackling sound, a quiet speaker or a mic that is muffled, usually dirt or a worn part.
- Does not turn on. A phone that is dead may have a flat battery, a failed battery or a board fault. We find out which before we say anything about the price.

An iPhone 11 is a phone where a repair is usually sensible: a battery or a screen costs a fraction of a replacement, and the phone does everything most people need. If it has been dropped, has water damage and a dying battery all at once, we say honestly after the diagnosis whether it is worth it. Check Apple's list of supported iOS versions before you invest.
Looking after your iPhone
- Replace the battery. It is the most noticeable thing you can do for an old phone.
- Back up before you bring it in. A phone with a failed board may not give you a second chance.
- Do not keep it in the heat. Hot cars shorten battery life, especially on a battery that is already tired.
