NAS and storage repair in Amsterdam: Synology, QNAP and more

A NAS that will not boot, a dead power adapter, a failed fan or a network port that stops: what usually fails on Synology, QNAP and storage systems.

NAS and storage repair in Amsterdam: Synology, QNAP and more

A NAS holds the family photos, the company shares or the backups of everything else, so a fault in it is more serious than the box suggests. The good news is that the hardware faults are usually simple: a power supply, a fan, a network port or the board. The thing to protect first is the data on the drives.

Blue Apple repairs NAS and storage systems in Amsterdam. The NAS and storage page lists the brands we work with, what typical repairs cost and how to send us a request.

What usually goes wrong with NAS and storage systems

  • Power supply or adapter failure. A NAS that is dead and shows no light often has a failed adapter or internal supply. It is the cheapest fault to rule out and the most common.
  • Fan failure and overheating. A failed fan shows as an alarm, a throttled NAS or a shutdown that protects the drives.
  • Network port faults. A port that no longer links up, or drops, with a cable that works elsewhere.
  • Controller and mainboard faults. A NAS that powers up but does not boot, or does not appear on the network.
  • Drive bay or backplane faults. A bay that no longer detects a drive that works in another bay.

Repair or replace?

A NAS is usually worth repairing: the drives and the data are worth more than the box, and a new NAS means setting everything up again. This service covers hardware repair only. We do not guarantee that data on the drives can be preserved or recovered, so keep a backup elsewhere, and do not initialise or rebuild an array on a unit with a hardware fault.

Looking after your NAS

  • Keep a backup of the backup. A NAS is not a backup by itself.
  • Do not swap drives around or reinitialise. If a NAS will not boot, do not start moving drives between bays before getting advice.
  • Give it ventilation and a surge protector. Heat and power spikes are the main causes of failure.

Common questions

Can you recover the data on my NAS?

We repair the hardware. We do not guarantee that data can be preserved or recovered, and it is not part of the service.

Yes, along with Asustor, TerraMaster, Western Digital, Seagate and others, on the NAS and storage page.

In short

Power supplies, fans, network ports and boards are what fail on a NAS, and the diagnosis tells you which, while your backup protects the data. See the NAS and storage page for the models and repairs, or send us a request. You will find us at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam, and you can call 020 239 11 93 with a question first.
