A Galaxy Z Fold is two phones in one: a normal-looking cover screen on the outside and a tablet-size folding screen inside, joined by a hinge. That is clever and it is also why a Fold is repaired differently: the parts that fail are the folding display, its protective layer and the hinge, and they cost more than any other phone part.
Blue Apple repairs the Galaxy Z Fold, from the Fold 2 to the newest models, at Rijnstraat 76-H in Amsterdam. Each model has its own page with the repairs we offer for it: start at the Samsung repair page.
What is different about the Galaxy Z Fold
- A folding inner screen under a protective film. The inner display is a flexible panel under a thin layer of protective film. The film is part of the display. It is not a screen protector you should peel off, and when it bubbles or lifts it needs to be repaired, not removed.
- A cover screen on the outside. The outer screen is glass and works like a normal phone display. It breaks like one, and it is a separate part from the inner screen.
- A hinge with brushes and seals. The hinge keeps dust out with small brushes. Grit that gets in causes a rough fold, noise or a crease that gets worse.
- Two batteries. The Fold has a battery on each side of the hinge, so battery work involves both halves.
What usually goes wrong with the Galaxy Z Fold
- Inner screen damaged. Black patches, lines across the display, a pressure mark or a crack. The folding screen is the most delicate part, and the one most often repaired.
- Protective film peeling or bubbling. The film lifts at the edges or forms bubbles. A new film needs a careful repair of the display layer.
- Cover screen cracked. A drop on the outside screen cracks the glass like any other phone.
- Hinge faults. A fold that is rough, makes noise or no longer stays at an angle.
- Battery or charging faults. Less common, but a battery on a Fold is more work to reach than on an ordinary phone.

Repair or replace?
A Fold is expensive to replace and expensive to repair, so the comparison matters. For a recent Fold, repairing the inner display or the hinge is usually less than half of a new one. For an older Fold with several faults at once, we tell you honestly after the diagnosis whether the repair is in proportion.
Looking after your Galaxy Z Fold
- Do not press the folding screen with a fingernail or a pen. Pressure marks are the most common reason the inner display fails.
- Do not peel the protective film. It belongs to the display.
- Keep the hinge clear of sand. Beach and pockets are where grit gets in.
